Privacy Policy

Germ Trips (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at https://germtrips.com. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have. It was last updated on 18 August 2026.

Who we are

Germ Trips is an independent travel publication. We write guides to hotels, restaurants, airport transfers, chauffeur services and things to do. Our website address is https://germtrips.com.

What we collect and why

Comments

When you leave a comment we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user agent string. This helps us detect spam. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Contact enquiries

If you contact us through the site we keep your message and contact details so we can reply. We do not use those details for marketing and we do not sell them.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies to remember your preferences and to understand how the site is used. A consent banner lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time from the cookie settings link on the site.

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure traffic. It records information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your approximate location and the type of device you use. This data is processed by Google. See Google’s privacy policy for details.

Advertising

We may display advertising served by Google and its partners. Advertising cookies may be used to show ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can manage this at Google My Ad Center.

Affiliate links

Many of our guides contain affiliate links to hotel, flight, transfer and activity booking partners. If you book through one of those links we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking an affiliate link may set a cookie that lets the partner attribute the booking to us. We only recommend options we believe are genuinely useful, and a commission never changes what we recommend.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as maps, videos and booking widgets. Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly. Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.

How long we keep your data

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically. For registered users we store the personal information supplied in the user profile. Users can see, edit or delete that information at any time, except that they cannot change their username. Site administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your rights

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you supplied to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Analytics and advertising data is processed by Google. Affiliate click data is shared with the booking partner whose link you followed.

Data security

The site is served over HTTPS. We take reasonable technical measures to protect the information we hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
