How We Write These Guides

Germ Trips publishes guides to hotels, restaurants, things to do and airport transfers across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and 33 European cities. This page explains how those guides are made, so you can judge how much weight to give them.

Who publishes this

Germ Trips is published by Sammie O. There is no newsroom and no team of local correspondents. One person runs the site.

How the guides are written

The guides are drafted by AI from a brief that names the place and the type of guide, and they publish on a schedule. They are not individually fact checked by a person before they go live. Around 20 new guides publish each day, and at that rate a human review pass on every one is not something this site currently does. We would rather tell you that than imply an editorial process that does not exist.

What that means when you read one:

• Treat anything time sensitive as a starting point rather than a fact. Prices, opening hours, room types, pet policies and accessibility features change often and are the most likely details to be out of date.
• Addresses and whether a property exists at all are more stable, but still worth a glance at the operator’s own site before you drive there.
• Where a guide tells you to confirm something directly with the property, that instruction is there for a reason.
• The guides are not based on first-hand visits. If one reads as though somebody stayed there, that is a writing artefact and not a claim we stand behind. Tell us and we will fix it.

Where the facts come from

• Official property, venue and operator websites
• Tourism boards, councils and destination directories
• Booking platforms, including Expedia, Booking and Trip.com
• Maps and review platforms, including Google Maps and TripAdvisor

Guides link out to the primary source wherever there is one worth following.

What we do not do

• We do not take bookings, hold reservations or handle payments. Every booking happens on the provider’s own site.
• We do not accept payment for a placement, a ranking or a favourable mention.
• We cannot change, cancel or look up a booking you made somewhere else.

How the site makes money

Some links here are affiliate links. If you book through one, Germ Trips may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That commission does not change what a guide says. Every affiliate unit carries its own disclosure next to the link, and the full detail is on the affiliate disclosure page.

Corrections

If a guide is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Use the contact page, choose “correction to a guide” as the topic, and include the address of the page you are reporting. We aim to reply within two to three working days.
