- Ye Olde White Harte Hotel, The Quay, CM0 8AS. Phone 01621 782106. Nineteen rooms in three grades, which makes it far and away the largest place in town and the one to try first. On the waterfront with a balcony over the river.
- The Star Inn, 29 High Street, CM0 8AG. Phone 01621 782010. A 17th-century coaching inn. Check in from 3pm, out by 10am. It advertises negotiable weekday rates for long-stay contractors, which is unusual and worth knowing if you are working locally.
- The Anchor Hotel, The Quay, CM0 8AT. Phone 01621 782117. Four-poster and family rooms with river views. It has reopened after extensive works, so older reviews describing it as closed are out of date.
- The Ship Inn, 52 High Street, CM0 8AA. Phone 01621 785057. Three en-suite rooms, opposite the Clock Tower.
- The Oyster Smack Inn, 112 Station Road, CM0 8HR. Phone 01621 782141. An independent restaurant with rooms.
- Burnt Mill Cottage B&B, 21 Mill Road, CM0 8PZ. Phone 01621 783712. Small private B&B.
None of them publishes a walk-in policy. With thirty rooms in the whole town, do not rely on one.
Burnham Week fills the town completely
Burnham Week 2026 runs Saturday 29 August to Sunday 5 September. It starts on the late August bank holiday weekend, has run since 1893, and covers more than twenty racing classes. Against thirty rooms, the rule is simple: book months ahead or you are not staying in Burnham.
The realistic fallback is not a nearby hotel, it is the train. Burnham-on-Crouch is on the Crouch Valley branch line between Wickford and Southminster, run by Greater Anglia. It is roughly 1 hour 10 minutes to London Liverpool Street, with a few direct trains at rush hour and a change at Wickford otherwise. That same line puts Chelmsford and the Maldon area within easy reach, which is where regatta visitors generally end up.
One listing that is not what it looks like
The Clockwork Hotel, 12 Station Road, CM0 8BQ, appears in hotel listings including Google Hotels. You cannot book a room there. It is sold as exclusive whole-venue hire — its own site says it hosts one group per night — with eleven bedrooms sleeping up to twenty-two, as an overnight escape-room experience with a private chef. Excellent if you have a group; useless if you want a single room.
It was formerly the Railway Hotel. Confusingly, CAMRA still carries a separate Railway Hotel entry for the same address marked permanently closed in 2015. One building, two conflicting public records, neither pointing at the other.
