Hibbing has its own hotels, so you do not need to stay in Virginia or Grand Rapids, but the stock is thin and both properties have naming problems that will make you think there are more than there are. One reopened in February 2025 after closing during the pandemic; the other trades under two different names at once.

Where to stay

  • Red Rock Hotel & Suites, 1402 East Howard Street, Hibbing, MN 55746. Phone 218-231-3501. This was the Kahler, or Hibbing Park Hotel. It closed during the pandemic, was bought in August 2021, renovated, and reopened on 12 February 2025. At least one major booking site still files it under the old Hibbing Park Hotel name.
  • Rodeway Inn Hibbing, also trading as Hibbing Inn & Suites, 1411 East 40th Street, MN 55746. Phone 218-263-8982. Choice Hotels brands it Rodeway; its own website calls it Hibbing Inn & Suites and never mentions Choice. Same address, same phone, one hotel. You may find it listed twice.

If you are coming for Bob Dylan, the festival has moved

Hibbing’s long-running Dylan Days festival is on hiatus. Guides that tell you to come to Hibbing in May for it are out of date.

What exists now is Duluth Dylan Fest, 17 to 24 May 2026, which is Duluth-based about 75 miles away. It opens with Hibbing Dylan Day on 17 May, including a birthday celebration at Dylan’s boyhood home, 2425 7th Avenue East, and a tour of the high school. So Hibbing gets one day and the crowd then moves on.

The two things to see

  • Hull Rust Mine View, 611 McKinley Street. Seasonal, open 9am to dusk daily in season, with the Red Ore Shoppe 11 to 4 Monday to Saturday and 11 to 3 on Sunday. A new scenic overlook opened in May 2025. The exact closing date is not published, so check before a late-autumn visit.
  • Greyhound Bus Museum, 1201 Greyhound Boulevard. Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Adults $7.50, seniors and students $5, family $20, under-threes free. Neither the museum nor the city publishes season dates, so we cannot tell you whether it closes for winter.

Sammie O publishes Germ Trips, a travel guide covering hotels, restaurants, airport transfers and chauffeur services. The guides aim for practical detail and a clear recommendation rather than an undifferentiated list. Where a town has no good option, the guides say so and point to the nearest one that does. Guides are AI drafted. A small number have been checked against official listings, and those say so on the page.
