Hotels in North York: It Is Part of Toronto, Not a City
It stopped being one on 1 January 1998, when it was amalgamated into the City of Toronto along with East York, Etobicoke, Scarborough and York.
North York is not a city. It stopped being one on 1 January 1998, when it was amalgamated into the City of Toronto along with East York, Etobicoke, Scarborough and York. So “hotels in North York” means hotels in a district of Toronto: same city government, same accommodation tax, same TTC fare. Treat it as a Toronto neighbourhood and the whole thing makes more sense.

Where to stay
- Novotel Toronto North York, 3 Park Home Avenue, North York, Toronto, ON M2N 6L3. Phone 416-733-2929. The useful detail: it has direct indoor access to North York Centre subway station, which in a Toronto winter is worth more than it sounds.
- Holiday Inn Express Toronto-North York, 30 Norfinch Drive, North York, ON M3N 1X1. Phone 416-665-3500. Recently renovated. Note this is in the northwest of North York near Jane and Finch, a very different location from the Novotel on the Yonge corridor. Check which one you are booking.
Two subway lines, not one
The Yonge corridor through North York is served by Line 1 Yonge-University, and Sheppard-Yonge station is also the terminus of Line 4 Sheppard. That gives the North York Centre area two lines and a straight run downtown.
Yorkdale, the other reason people stay up here, is on Line 1 with direct subway access from downtown.
One correction worth money
If you are coming for an event at the Toronto Congress Centre, do not book North York. The Congress Centre is at 650 Dixon Road, M9W 1J1, which is in Etobicoke near Pearson Airport, on the other side of the city. Booking North York for a Congress Centre event means a long cross-town trip twice a day.
Yorkdale is a genuine North York draw. The Congress Centre is not.
People often say North York is cheaper than downtown Toronto. We could not confirm that from any official source, so treat it as a reasonable expectation rather than a fact, and compare actual rates for your dates.
