Blacklane is a chauffeur company outright — not an airline perk, not a car-hire add-on. It covers over 500 cities in some 60 countries, including London, Los Angeles, and New York across JFK, LaGuardia and Newark.
How it actually works, and why that matters
This is the part worth understanding before you book. Blacklane does not own cars or employ drivers. Its own terms describe it as an intermediary for “independent local service providers”, and state plainly that it does not provide, own or control the transportation itself.
That is not a criticism — it is how the model works, and Blacklane says it only partners with insured, pre-existing licensed chauffeur companies. But it explains two things travellers notice: the car that arrives carries a local operator’s name rather than Blacklane’s, and service consistency depends on which local company covers your city.
What you get
- A fixed price quoted upfront, including VAT, fees and tolls. No meter, no surge.
- An hour of complimentary waiting on airport pickups, with flight tracking — so a delayed landing does not cost you the car. This is the strongest practical reason to use it over a taxi rank.
- Airport transfers, hourly and full-day hire, and city-to-city long distance.
- Vehicle classes: Business Class, First Class, and Business Van or SUV.
Booking
Website or app, in advance — there is no on-demand hail. Founded in Berlin in 2011, it is one of the more established operators in this category, which is relevant given how many chauffeur “services” turn out to be lead-generation pages.
