Two hotels connect directly into the BJCC complex, and everything else is a walk. That is the whole decision, and the BJCC itself confirms it: the Sheraton Birmingham and The Westin Birmingham are the only properties with a direct connection to the complex.
The second decision is parking, and it is worth more money than most people expect. Both connected hotels charge $43 a night for valet, and neither offers self-parking. A BJCC deck for the night is a fraction of that. If you are driving, that gap is bigger than the room-rate difference between most of these hotels.

The two hotels you can walk straight in from
The Sheraton Birmingham at 2101 Richard Arrington Jr Boulevard North is seamlessly connected to the BJCC and holds Alabama’s largest ballroom, which is why it takes most of the convention business. The Westin, one block up at 2221, has the same direct connection and the newer, more comfortable rooms.
What you are buying with either is the absence of weather, rideshare surge and a walk back at 11pm. For a concert on a January night, or with children, or in dress shoes, that is a real thing worth paying for.
The Westin also opens onto the Uptown entertainment district and the Coca-Cola Amphitheater, so if your event is outdoors rather than in Legacy Arena it is the better of the two.
Do not valet if you can avoid it
This is the money-saving detail on this page. Both connected hotels publish valet at $43 per night, rising to $53 for oversized vehicles, and neither lists a self-parking option. Over a two-night stay that is $86 before you have bought a ticket.
The BJCC runs its own decks and lots across the campus — eighteen of them, including the 1,800-space P9 at 2000 11th Avenue North, the 1,400-space P4 at 917 22nd Street North and the 1,400-space BG deck at 801 19th Street North. Two things to know before you arrive:
- All BJCC lots and garages are cashless. Bring a card; do not plan on cash.
- You can pre-purchase parking in advance through BJCCParking.com, which is worth doing for a sold-out event.
If you are staying at a connected hotel and driving, park in a BJCC deck and walk the last hundred yards rather than handing the car to a valet. If you are staying at the John Hand Club, parking is free and the question does not arise.
Walkable value picks
The Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham-Downtown-Tutwiler at 2021 Park Place is the value answer: about half a mile, ten minutes on foot, in the historic Tutwiler building. You get a downtown location and an included breakfast at a Hampton price rather than a convention-hotel one.
The Redmont at 2101 5th Avenue North is the character pick. It opened on 1 May 1925 and is the second-oldest hotel in Birmingham still in use, now running as a boutique property in Hilton’s Curio Collection. Ten minutes’ walk, and a rooftop that is a destination in its own right.
The John Hand Club and Hotel at 17 20th Street North sits in a 1912 bank building on the south side of downtown. It is about fifteen minutes on foot, and it is the only hotel on this list with free parking — which, given the $43 valet a few blocks north, is worth restating.
How to choose for your event
- Arena concert, late finish, no car — Sheraton or Westin. Pay for the connection.
- Arena concert, driving in — walkable hotel plus a pre-booked BJCC deck. You will be better off than valeting at a connected hotel.
- Convention or trade show — Sheraton. It is where the ballrooms and the other delegates are.
- Amphitheater or Uptown — Westin.
- Two nights on a budget — Hampton Tutwiler, and walk.
- Anniversary, or you just want a nice room — Elyton or Redmont, and take a rideshare the half mile.
Whichever you pick, book early for a named tour date. Birmingham’s downtown hotel stock is not large, and a sold-out Legacy Arena empties it.
