Milan’s Three Airports: Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo, and What Each Costs to Leave
Linate is 2.20 euros and 12 minutes on an ordinary city ticket. Malpensa is 15 by train or 114 by taxi. Bergamo has no train at all. Verified 2026 fares for all three.

Getting into Milan from Linate costs 2.20 euros and takes 12 minutes on an ordinary city metro ticket. From Malpensa it is 15 euros and 37 minutes. From Bergamo, which is marketed as Milan, there is no train at all and the coach takes an hour. Three airports, three completely different propositions. This page sets out what each costs, checked against Trenord, ATM, SEA and the Lombardy taxi tariff in September 2026.
What each airport costs
| Airport | Train or metro | Coach | Taxi | Distance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Linate | 2.20 euros, 12 minutes | 2.20 euros, bus 73 | Metered, about 25 minutes | Inside the city |
| Malpensa | 15 euros, 37 to 51 minutes | From 4 to 10 euros | 114 euros fixed | About 50 km |
| Bergamo Orio al Serio | None | 4 to 5 euros, 50 to 60 minutes | 128 euros fixed | About 45 km |
MXP, LIN and BGY are three different airports. Book carefully.
Linate, and the cheapest airport metro in Europe
This is the most useful fact on the page, and most arrivals do not know it.
There is no airport supplement at Linate. It sits inside Milan’s ordinary urban area, so a standard Mi1 to Mi3 ticket at 2.20 euros covers it. So does the 7.60 euro day ticket and the 15.50 euro three day ticket. ATM confirms it on its own fare page.
That is unusual. Most European airport metros carry a premium. Milan’s does not.
The M4 reaches San Babila in 12 minutes, calling at Repetti, Forlanini FS, Argonne, Susa, Dateo and Tricolore. Trains come every one to three minutes on weekdays, three to six on Saturdays and four to six on Sundays. The first train from Linate is 05:40 Monday to Saturday and 06:00 on Sundays and holidays, and the last is 00:26 daily.
Contactless bank cards work at the M4 turnstiles.
Bus 73 runs the same route between San Babila and Linate on the same 2.20 ticket, with an express variant, X73. Note that SEA’s own Linate bus page does not list line 73 at all, listing instead 183, 973, 901, 903, Z409, K511 and 923, and we could not retrieve the operator’s timetable for 73.
For Milano Centrale there is no direct M4. You change at San Babila for M1 and M3, or at Sforza Policlinico for M3. No official journey time is published for that trip.
One thing to watch. There is live political pressure in Milan to introduce a Linate surcharge, and the local press has run stories about it. As of September 2026 nothing has been adopted and the 2.20 fare stands. If you are reading this much later, check.
Malpensa by train
The Malpensa Express costs 15 euros for an adult single and 7.50 for a child aged 4 to 13, with under 3s free. A return bought online starts at 25. The fare went up from 13 euros on 1 August 2025, which Trenord described as the first airport tariff change since 2016.
The line serves both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, with Terminal 2 as the terminus.
Two branches run, and choosing the wrong one is the common error.
- To Milano Cadorna, 37 minutes. Cadorna is an M1 and M2 interchange and is faster.
- To Milano Centrale, 51 minutes. Centrale is the mainline station, so this is the one you want with an onward Trenitalia connection.
Each branch runs every 30 minutes, which is where the advertised 15 minute frequency comes from. It is the two branches combined, not one train every 15 minutes to your destination.
The Cadorna branch runs roughly 04:27 to 00:20 and the Centrale branch 05:25 to 23:25. Trenord’s own pages give slightly different figures depending on which one you read.
Malpensa is outside the ATM urban area, so no Milan city ticket is valid there.
Malpensa by coach
SEA lists six operators and publishes no fares. Here is what the operators themselves publish.
| Operator | One way | Return | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malpensa Shuttle | 10.00 euros | 16.00 euros | Not published |
| Terravision | From 4.00 euros | From 8.00 euros | 40 to 50 minutes |
| Autostradale | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Both run to Milano Centrale, Malpensa Shuttle to Via Sammartini and Terravision direct with no intermediate stops. Terravision’s own page gives 40 to 45 minutes in one place and about 50 in another.
One thing to note if you are reading an older guide. The Terravision stop at Terminal 1 moved on 22 January 2026 to level minus one, in front of the Sheraton Hotel. Malpensa Shuttle uses the same level.
Bergamo, which is not Milan
Orio al Serio is marketed as Milan Bergamo and is the base for several low cost carriers. It is about 45 to 50 km from Milan, in a different province.
There is no railway station at the airport. Everything is by road.
| Operator | One way to Milano Centrale | Return | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terravision | 5.00 euros | 10.00 euros | 50 to 60 minutes |
| Orio Shuttle | 4.00 online, 5.00 otherwise | 8.00 euros | 50 to 60 minutes |
| Autostradale | 5.00 euros | 9.00 euros | Not published |
All three run roughly every 30 minutes. Terravision stops once en route at Cologno Monzese.
For Bergamo city itself, ATB line 1 takes about 15 minutes to the railway station. ATB publishes no numeric fare on its public pages, so we cannot give one.
A rail link is under construction, a five kilometre branch to a new underground station connected to the terminal by moving walkway, at a cost of 218 million euros, started in 2023. Do not plan around it. Two official bodies give different dates. RFI confirmed December 2026 back in February 2025. The current FS Italiane project page says 2028. RFI’s own release in February 2026 confirmed the works are delayed, said it had taken contractual action against the contractor, and gave no completion date at all. Once open it is projected at 10 minutes to Bergamo and 60 to Milan.
Taxis
Malpensa and Orio have fixed fares. Linate does not. That surprises people who assume it works the same way at all three.
| Route | Fixed fare |
|---|---|
| Malpensa to Milan city centre | 114 euros |
| Orio al Serio to Milan | 128 euros |
| Malpensa to Linate | 128 euros |
| Malpensa to Fiera Rho | 94 euros |
| Linate to Fiera Rho | 68 euros |
The fixed fare is all inclusive. One price for the whole car regardless of how many of you there are, including the A8 motorway tolls, luggage and any night, holiday or call out supplement. It is valid only for a direct route with no intermediate stops.
The 114 comes from a Lombardy regional decree of 26 May 2025. The previous figure was 110, set in July 2023, and 110 is still widely advertised by booking sites. It is superseded.
Linate to the centre runs on the meter: 4.10 euros to start on a weekday daytime, 6.60 on Sundays and holidays, 7.90 at night between 21:00 and 06:00, then 1.32 a kilometre up to 17.35 euros and 1.98 after that. Waiting is 34.48 an hour and the minimum fare from the airport is 16 euros. A typical run to the centre is about 25 minutes.
Uber, Free Now and Bolt
There is no UberX in Italy. The peer to peer model is not permitted, so Uber operates only through licensed categories.
Uber Black is an NCC, a licensed chauffeur hire car. It is substantially more expensive than a metered taxi, and dynamic surge pricing was introduced in Milan in 2026. Uber Taxi dispatches a licensed local taxi at the municipal tariff, which means an Uber Taxi booking from Malpensa costs the same 114 euros as a taxi from the rank.
Free Now is a taxi hailing app in Italy, not a private hire fleet. It was acquired by Lyft in 2025 and now brands as FREENOW by Lyft. Because it dispatches licensed taxis, airport journeys are charged at the regulated tariff. Bolt also operates in Milan.
We are not going to print Uber Black prices. They are dynamically set and no reliable figure was obtainable.
City tickets
| ATM ticket | Price | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| Urban single, Mi1 to Mi3 | 2.20 euros | 90 minutes |
| Daily | 7.60 euros | 24 hours from validation |
| 3 day | 15.50 euros | Three consecutive days |
All three cover Linate on the M4 and on bus 73. None of them covers Malpensa, which is outside the urban area, and Bergamo is a different province entirely.
What we could not confirm
Autostradale’s official Malpensa fare. It publishes none on its public pages and its dedicated site would not load.
Malpensa Shuttle journey times and first and last departures.
Bus 73 journey time, frequency and hours, and the Linate to Milano Centrale metro time.
The ATB line 1 fare at Bergamo.
Peak traffic journey times on any road route. No operator or municipal source quantifies the delay, so we will not invent one. The defensible statement is structural. The Malpensa Express and the M4 are unaffected by congestion. Every coach, taxi and chauffeur car is exposed to it, and the Malpensa coaches use the A8, one of Italy’s busiest motorways.
Two figures worth rechecking before you rely on them. The 114 euro Malpensa taxi fare is corroborated by two independent sources but the Comune di Milano page was not reachable for us, and 110 is still circulating. And Orio Shuttle’s own site rendered its price unreadably, so those figures come from a third party.
