Nashville Airport to Downtown and Broadway: What Each Option Costs
A taxi to downtown is a flat 30 dollars, the bus is 2, and an Uber carries 7 dollars of fees the airport does not publish. Verified 2026 fares and the new pickup point.

A taxi from Nashville airport to downtown is a flat 30 dollars. The bus is 2 dollars and takes 34 minutes. An Uber carries 7 dollars of fees before the fare even starts, and the airport does not publish that anywhere. This page sets out what every option costs, checked against Nashville International Airport, WeGo Public Transit and the Metro Nashville taxicab rules in September 2026.

Downtown is about 8 miles east of the airport. The airport publishes no mileage or drive time figure of its own, and neither does the city, so we are not going to invent one.
Nothing picks up at the kerb any more
This is the practical change from the airport’s rebuild, and it catches almost everyone.
Taxis, Uber, Lyft, hotel shuttles, off airport parking shuttles and the WeGo bus all now leave from the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of Terminal Garage 2. Not from outside baggage claim.
From the Grand Lobby it is about a five minute walk. Exit on Level 1, turn right, and follow the pavement under the pedestrian canopy toward Terminal Garage 2.
The one exception is the airport’s own shuttles to Economy Lots B and C, which still run kerbside.
Two other things worth knowing if you are arriving in the next couple of years. A Central Core Enhancement project started in June 2026 and runs about 18 months, adding escalators and lifts, though the airport says Level 1 ground transport access stays open. And a new six storey consolidated rental car facility is under construction, which is why Terminal Lot A closed on 1 July 2026.
The bus
Route 18 is the airport route. It runs to the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central, which is the facility a lot of guides still call Music City Central. Same place, old name.
The fare is 2 dollars for a two hour pass, or 1 dollar for riders 19 and under and 65 and over. Children 4 and under travel free. Daily spending is capped at 4 dollars, so a return trip costs the same as an all day pass.
On the timetable that took effect on 5 July 2026, the end to end run is about 34 minutes. Buses come every 30 minutes between 6am and 6pm on weekdays and weekends, and every 40 minutes in the evening.
First bus from the airport is 5:35am on weekdays and 5:50am at weekends. Last bus from the airport is 11:47pm. Going the other way the last bus from downtown is 11:15pm. There is no overnight service.
Two cautions. WeGo’s own airport landing page still says express trips take about 20 minutes and local trips 35 to 45. The July 2026 timetable shows no express and local split and a uniform 34 minutes, so that page appears not to have been updated. And route 18 has been on a long term downtown detour since April 2026 for a lane closure on Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, with four downtown stops closed and temporary stops at Union Street and Rosa Parks Avenue.
Route 18 does not serve Music Row. That needs a transfer at WeGo Central.
Taxis, and where the 9 dollars comes from
Two official sources publish what look like different base fares. They are not.
The airport says the base fare is 9 dollars. The city’s taxicab rules say the drop is 5 dollars plus a 4 dollar airport departure surcharge. Those are the same number. The airport publishes the combined figure and the city publishes the components.

The important detail is that the 4 dollar surcharge applies only to metered airport departures. It does not stack on top of a flat rate.
The flat rates are per trip, not per person, plus 2 dollars for each extra passenger travelling to the same destination.

Music Row is not a named flat rate zone. That trip is metered unless the driver treats it as West End, and we could not establish which happens in practice.
Uber and Lyft, and the 7 dollars
Pickup is the Ground Transportation Center, Level 1 of Terminal Garage 2.
Two charges land on top of the fare.
The airport’s own ground transportation policy, effective 1 August 2026, sets a 5 dollar per trip fee to carry passengers from the airport and another 5 dollars to carry them to it. That went up from 4 dollars on 1 July 2025.
On top of that there is a 2 dollar Metro Nashville surcharge on trips originating at the airport, in place since 2007 and remitted to the Music City Center. We could not find that one in the Metro Code or on nashville.gov. It rests on news reporting, so treat it as reported rather than confirmed.
The rider facing total is 7 dollars one way and 12 dollars for a round trip. None of it appears on the airport’s own rideshare page, which states no fee at all.
We are not going to quote a typical fare to downtown. Uber publishes none for this airport and says openly that the price depends on demand. Any range we printed would be wrong on a Saturday night.
Rental cars, with no shuttle
This is one of the easier airports for a rental. There is no bus.
Counters for all ten operators are on Level 1 of the main terminal, down the escalators from baggage claim. The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is across Terminal Drive in Terminal Garage 1, reached on foot: exit Level 1, cross at the crossing into the garage, then turn left on Level 1 and follow the signs.
The Customer Facility Charge is 10 dollars per rental car transaction day, from the airport’s own rates schedule for the year to 30 June 2026. We could not find the schedule for the year that started on 1 July 2026, so whether 10 dollars is still current is unconfirmed.
Note that this is the existing facility. The replacement six storey building is under construction and not yet in use.
What we could not confirm
Drive time from the airport to downtown, normal or at rush hour. No official source publishes one, and the airport’s own travel tips page declines to give a figure and points travellers at live navigation apps instead.
Whether a route 18 express variant still runs after the July 2026 restructure.
