Palma Airport to the City, Magaluf and Alcudia: What Each Option Costs

The bus from Palma airport into the city costs 5 euros. The same bus company charges 2 euros for an ordinary city journey, and you cannot use the airport line for one. Tapping a bank card on the island bus to Magaluf costs 4.05 euros against 6.75 in cash, which is a 40 percent difference for doing nothing. This page sets out what every option costs, checked against Aena, EMT Palma, TIB and the Palma taxi decree in September 2026.

What each option costs

Two live changes at the kerb

Until 19 September 2026 the EMT and TIB bus stop on the outside departures level is temporarily relocated for works. Aena has a notice up. If you are reading this after that date it will have moved back.

And from 4 November 2026 the taxi rank moves to the right side of the platform, from the left.

The city bus, and the rule that surprises people

EMT Palma runs two airport lines. A1 goes to the city centre and A2 to Playa de Palma and S’Arenal.

The fare is 5 euros in cash on board. An ordinary city fare is 2 euros, so the airport carries a 150 percent premium. Neither line includes a transfer.

Here is the rule that catches people. EMT states that A1 and A2 are exclusively for journeys starting or ending at the airport, with no intermediate trips permitted. You cannot use them as normal city buses between two stops in town.

A1 runs every 12 minutes. From the airport the first is 05:30 and the last is 03:10. Going out, the first is 04:17 and the last is 03:30. It calls at nine stops including Placa d’Espanya and the Estacio Intermodal, and terminates at Passeig Mallorca and Jaume III. The run into the centre takes about 20 minutes.

A2 runs every 25 minutes over 22 stops. From the airport the first is 06:15 and the last is 01:15, and the run to S’Arenal takes about 32 minutes.

Two caveats. The timetable EMT was showing when we checked was headed as valid only to 9 September 2026, with no successor published, so the autumn schedule may differ. And several sites claim a discounted 3 euro card fare on the airport lines. EMT’s own tariff page shows only 5 euros cash and publishes no card table for these lines, so treat the 3 euros as unconfirmed.

The island buses

TIB runs the intercity network. Six airport lines exist, though Aena’s own page lists only four of them.

There is no direct airport bus to Soller or to Port de Pollenca. Neither appears on any airport line.

The fare gap between card and cash is the thing to know. TIB caps fares at four hops.

Tapping a card saves about 40 percent on every one of those.

You must validate on boarding and again on getting off. TIB recommends keeping at least 5 euros of balance.

We could not get first and last departures or frequencies for the TIB airport lines. TIB publishes those only as individual downloads.

The free travel that is not for you

You will see headlines about free public transport in Mallorca in 2026. Read the condition.

It applies only to holders of a Tarjeta Intermodal or Tarjeta Unica with an updated profile. TIB states it in as many words: free travel applies only to trips made with those cards, and bank card and single ticket fares do not change.

A visitor paying cash or tapping a bank card pays the full fare. EMT applies the same rule.

Trains, and the one that is a tourist attraction

There is no train from the airport. All three Mallorca rail lines start at the Estacio Intermodal at Placa d’Espanya, so you take the A1 there first. They run to Inca, sa Pobla and Manacor.

The Soller railway is a different thing entirely. It is a heritage tourist line, not public transport, and it is excluded from the integrated fare system. Palma to Soller is 23 euros one way, or 40 for the combined train and tram ticket. Palma to Bunyola is 11. It takes about an hour and it is worth doing for its own sake, but it is no use as transport from the airport.

Taxis

Rates come from the Palma city taxi decree of May 2025.

Two airport specific figures matter. There is a 4.65 euro airport supplement charged once per trip, and a minimum fare of 16.95 euros from the airport, which already includes the flag fall, the supplement and the first seven kilometres.

Other supplements: 3 euros for five or six passengers, 6 euros for seven or eight, 1.15 for a radio dispatch, 4.75 over Christmas and New Year, and mountain surcharges of 8.52 for Sa Calobra and Cap Formentor and 4.26 for Deia and Valldemossa.

Free, and stated as free by the city: luggage, pushchairs, guide dogs, wheelchairs and receipts.

There is no official published total to any destination. Two secondary sources give Palma centre at 25 to 35 euros, Magaluf at 35 to 50 and Alcudia at 85 to 100. One of them calls these fixed fares. They are not. The decree is a metered structure with a minimum, not a fixed price list.

Uber, and what is not here

Aena lists the private hire operators at this airport by name: Uber, Raicars, Salty Driver, Autocares Marques, Roig Bus and Transfer Class. All pick up on Floor 0, outside the terminal building, at arrivals.

Cabify and Bolt are not on that list. Bolt’s own Spanish city list contains no Balearic entry at all, which suggests it does not operate here. A travel site claiming Cabify is the best established app on Mallorca is contradicted by Aena’s own page.

The rules here are tighter than the mainland. On 20 February 2026 the Balearic government approved the first regulation governing taxis and private hire together. It reinforces the prior booking obligation and defines what counts as unlawful touting, and it sets a joint ceiling on taxi and private hire licences per island. More than 10,000 private hire applications were pending when it arrived, 6,500 of them in Ibiza.

The practical effect is that you must book in the app. There is no private hire rank to walk up to, and drivers may not approach you.

Rental cars

All on airport, no shuttle. You collect at a desk on Floor 0 and walk to the car park level.

Aena publishes no rental surcharge schedule, so we will not quote one.

On the much discussed vehicle cap: on 6 June 2026 the Consell de Mallorca approved a law limiting vehicle entry to the island, including a cap on the rental fleet and a fee. As of 2 September 2026 the actual maximum numbers had not been set, and the Consell said it would fix them before the end of the year. So no numeric cap and no entry fee are in force. Any figure you read elsewhere is a proposal.

The tourist tax

This is charged per person per night, not per room, and it is not usually in the price your booking site showed you.

Those are before 10 percent VAT. The low season figures are the high season rate reduced by 75 percent.

Under 16s are exempt. From the ninth consecutive night at the same establishment the rate halves, and beyond about two months it stops applying.

One correction. A report in June 2026 claimed a decree had raised summer rates to 6 euros for five star hotels and abolished the tax in January and February. The government’s own calculator shows the unchanged structure above, and two other sources state the proposed increase was postponed for lack of parliamentary support. The 6 euro rate is a proposal, not law.

What we could not confirm

The exact distance from the airport to Palma centre. Neither Aena nor the city publishes one.

The claimed 3 euro bank card fare on the EMT airport lines.

Rental car airport fees on the bill, and the rental fleet cap figures, which do not yet exist.

Whether Cabify serves this airport, and whether the A33 line is currently running, since TIB showed it greyed out.
