Punta Cana Airport Transfer Cost 2026: The Official Taxi Tariff

Punta Cana Airport does publish an official taxi tariff, and almost no guide reproduces it correctly. It runs from 10 dollars to Puntacana Village and 30 dollars to Cap Cana, up to 70 dollars for the Uvero Alto resorts and 120 dollars to La Romana. The rates are one way, they cover one to four people, and each extra passenger adds 20 dollars.

The important detail is what the tariff is not. It is not organised by zone. It lists named hotels and landmarks, one by one. Any page offering you a single Bavaro price is inventing a category the source document does not contain, and inside Bavaro the real spread runs from 25 to 40 dollars depending on which hotel you booked.

The official rates, short haul

Issued by the Asociacion de Taxistas Turistico de Beron Bavaro, Punta Cana y Zonas Aledanas, trading as Taxi Turistico Beron. One way, one to four passengers.

The footnote on the sheet is explicit. These rates are for one to four people. Extras pay 20 dollars per person on top.

The official rates, long distance

A second sheet covers everything beyond the resort strip, and this one publishes return prices as well.

Note the return pricing. La Romana costs 120 dollars one way and 150 dollars for a return trip, so booking the same driver both ways saves 90 dollars against paying twice.

Read the date on that tariff before you argue with a driver

The document the airport serves is the 2024 sheet. There is no 2026 revision. The airport’s own link points at a 2025 file that returns a 404, so the live tariff is at least two years old.

Treat these figures as the published reference rather than a guaranteed price. They are the right thing to quote at the taxi desk, and they are the right thing to check a driver’s number against, but a fare that has drifted upward since 2024 is not automatically a scam.

Who is authorised

The airport lists three authorised taxi operators: SIUTRATURAL, Beron Taxi and ASOTATUPAL. Only Beron publishes the tariff sheets above.

Use the taxi desk inside the terminal rather than accepting an approach in the arrivals hall. The desk is where the published rate applies.

Uber works here, and the airport maps the pickup points

Uber runs UberX and Uber Select at Punta Cana, with Uber Reserve bookable up to 90 days ahead. The airport publishes a map showing where each product collects, and the two are not in the same place.

The Terminal B UberX point is a genuine walk with luggage. If that matters to you, Select collects at the door.

One honesty note. The airport’s own services page describes the Uber pickup areas as to be determined, and the map is the only concrete detail it publishes. Follow the app on the day.

Terminal A is the thatched one, Terminal B is not

Punta Cana’s famous open-air terminal with palm frond roofing is Terminal A, which dates from 1983. Terminal B opened in November 2014, uses jet bridges, and is completely enclosed.

Plenty of guides describe the whole airport as open air. That has been half wrong for over a decade.

Which terminal you use depends on your airline, and the airport contradicts itself on this. Its FAQ page and its airlines-by-terminal PDF disagree on Avianca and United. Both lists also still name Swoop, which was absorbed into WestJet in 2023, and Evelop, which became Iberojet in 2022. Confirm your terminal with your airline rather than with the airport’s page.

Broadly, Terminal A handles Air Canada, Air Transat, Condor, Eurowings, Frontier, JetBlue, LATAM, Spirit, Sun Country, Sunwing, TUI and WestJet. Terminal B handles Aerolineas Argentinas, American, Arajet, Avianca, British Airways, Copa, Delta, Southwest and United.

The E-Ticket catches people on the way home

The E-Ticket is a free digital form on the government migration portal, required for both entering and leaving the country. Completing it generates a single QR code, and one code covers everyone listed on that form.

Both directions is the part travellers miss. People file it before the outbound flight, spend two weeks at the resort, then reach departures without having done the exit form.

There is no minimum advance window. The portal only sets a deadline for changes: an E-Ticket can be modified up to one day before the flight date on the form, and if you cannot edit it you simply create another, with the most recent one being the valid one. The widely repeated claim that you must file 72 hours ahead does not appear anywhere on the official portal.

Fill in the return form the night before you fly home.

The tourist card is already in your airfare

Executive Order 430-17 folded the 10 dollar tourist card into ticket prices, effective 25 April 2018. You should not be paying it again at a desk.

Two exceptions survive and most guides omit both. Tickets sold inside the Dominican Republic are not covered, and cruise arrivals still follow the old entry process. The airport’s own wording adds a sensible hedge: verify with your carrier.

Car hire and driving

Twelve or more rental firms operate at the airport, split across the terminals. Avis, Budget, Europcar, Payless, Sixt and Thrifty serve both. National and Ameri Rent sit at Terminal A. Hertz, Dollar, Fox and Nelly sit at Terminal B.

Be careful with the airport’s rental table if you look it up yourself. The website column in its own listing is offset by one row, so Ameri Rent shows Europcar’s address and Avis shows Ameri Rent’s.

A correction on Dominican road safety

A figure circulates widely, including in an earlier version of this page, claiming the Dominican Republic has the world’s highest road death rate at 65.2 per 100,000 people. That is wrong on both counts and we are correcting it here rather than quietly deleting it.

On the WHO estimate the Dominican Republic ranks twelfth in the world, behind Guinea, Libya, Haiti, Guinea-Bissau, Zimbabwe, Syria, Yemen, Comoros, Nepal, Kenya and Burkina Faso. The 65.2 figure traces to no source we could find. The nearest real number is the World Bank’s 64.6 for 2019, which counts registered deaths on a different methodology and is not interchangeable with the WHO estimate.

The practical advice does not change much. Both figures put Dominican roads among the more dangerous in the Americas, and a professional driver is a reasonable choice for a resort holiday where you will leave the property a handful of times. But the honest version of that argument does not need an invented statistic.

The airport publishes no distance table. These are road routing figures in free flowing traffic, not an official publication, so treat them as a floor rather than a promise.

• Whether any ride hailing app other than Uber operates here. The airport names only Uber and we found no primary source for InDrive, DiDi or Cabify.
• A 2025 or 2026 taxi tariff. The airport’s link to a 2025 sheet returns a 404 and the live document is dated 2024.
• Whether Terminal B is air conditioned. It is confirmed as fully enclosed. No source we found states air conditioning.
• Any official self drive guidance. The airport publishes none.
• Which airlines definitively use which terminal, given the airport’s own two lists disagree.
