Every price you will find online for the Yerebatan Sarnıcı is out of date, and we are not going to add another wrong number to the pile. The current foreign-visitor price is not published anywhere we can verify. Here is what actually happened, so you know why.
What changed
- Under Istanbul municipality operation the cistern ran day and night sessions at different prices, roughly 1,950 TL by day and from 3,000 TL for the 19:30–22:00 night shift. That is the structure almost every guide still describes.
- April 2026: entry dropped to 1 TL for Turkish citizens, and in the same week the site was transferred to the General Directorate of Foundations.
- 2 June 2026: the new operator took physical possession, reporting that cameras, servers and climate units had been stripped during the handover.
- 6 June 2026: reopened. Free for Turkish citizens to the end of June, then via the MüzeKart system. Foreign visitors pay — at a rate neither reopening announcement stated.
What this means for you
Assume the price and the session structure have both changed, and check at the door or on the day. Whether the night sessions survived the handover is also unconfirmed. The cistern’s own website renders nothing to an automated check, and the Directorate of Foundations publishes no ticket page for it.
Two things we can say with confidence. The Museum Pass Istanbul has never covered it and still does not — it was a municipal site and is now a Foundations site, never a Ministry museum. And anyone selling you a fixed-price advance ticket right now is quoting a structure that changed under their feet in June.
