Baths of Caracalla Tickets: The Underground Is Already Included
The Mithraeum and the frescoed Domus at the Baths of Caracalla are inside the ordinary 8 euro ticket. The real risk is turning up on a Monday.
Rome’s largest surviving imperial bath complex is €8, which after the Colosseum feels like a mistake. It is not. It is also the site where people pay for something they already have.
The underground is not an extra
The Mitreo — the Mithraeum, one of the largest in Rome — and the Domus di Vigna Guidi with its frescoes are both visitable on the ordinary ticket. There is no underground upgrade to buy. The Domus does close on high-attendance days such as the free first Sunday of the month.
A price discrepancy we will not hide
Two official 2026 pages give €8 full, €2 reduced, with a €5 supplement when an exhibition is running. A December 2025 page from the same authority says €10. We cannot resolve which applies on a given date — the €10 figure may be exhibition-inclusive or simply superseded. Budget €13 and be pleasantly surprised.
Closed Mondays
Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00, to 19:15 in summer with last entry at 18:00, and 09:00 to 16:30 from late October to the end of February. Booking is not required. There is no presale fee.
One practical change: ticketing moved to the state Musei Italiani portal in 2024, tickets are now nominative, and the on-site kiosks take cards only, no cash. Guides pointing you at CoopCulture are describing a system that no longer sells this site.
