Hotels in Farmington, Maine: Three Motels, No Chains

Posted in :

Farmington has no chain hotel. Three independent motels, all on the edge of town, and that is the list. If you searched for a Comfort Inn here you will have found one, but it is in Wilton, ten minutes down the road, and Choice Hotels trades it under the Wilton name. This guide gives you what is actually in Farmington, what is near it, and the one weekend a year when none of it is available.

The three motels in Farmington

  • Mount Blue Motel, 454 Wilton Road, Farmington, ME 04938. Phone 207-778-6004. Its own site says open year round, which is worth knowing in a part of Maine where plenty of places are not. Early check-in and late check-out are sometimes possible at the desk’s discretion. Its website is mtbluemotel.com — the university’s tourism directory publishes mountbluemotel.com, which is a dead domain.
  • Colonial Valley Motel, 593 Wilton Road, Farmington, ME 04938. Phone 207-778-3391 or 800-684-2800. Locally owned and taking bookings. It does not publish a seasonal closing date or a minimum stay, so ring if either matters to you.
  • Farmington Motel, 489 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, ME 04938. Phone 207-778-4680. Check in from 2pm, out by 10am, and it has a dedicated extended-stay option, which makes it the one to ask about for a longer visit.

Ten minutes away in Wilton

Both of these get listed as Farmington hotels. Neither is in Farmington.

  • Comfort Inn & Suites Wilton, 1026 US Route 2 East, Wilton, ME 04294. Phone 207-645-5155. Choice Hotels trades it as Wilton; Visit Maine lists it as “Farmington / Wilton”, which is how it ends up in Farmington search results.
  • Wilson Lake Inn & Suites, 183 Lake Road, Wilton, ME 04294. Phone 207-645-3721. Open year round, and its own site describes itself as ten minutes from the university.

The weekend the town has no rooms

University of Maine at Farmington commencement is Saturday 8 May 2027. Three small motels in town plus two properties in Wilton is the entire local supply, and graduation exhausts it. If you are coming for that weekend, book months ahead, and expect to end up in Wilton, Rumford or Augusta if you leave it late. This is not a town where you arrive and find a room.

Practical notes

  • You need a car. All three motels are on the approach roads rather than in the centre, and there is no useful public transport.
  • Book by phone if the dates are tight. These are small independents; they are not always fully represented on booking sites, and a call gets a better answer than an empty availability calendar.
  • Rates are not published. None of the three posts standard nightly rates, so we do not quote any.

The guides aim for practical detail and a clear recommendation rather than an undifferentiated list. Where a town has no good option, the guides say so and point to the nearest one that does. Guides are AI drafted. A small number have been checked against official listings, and those say so on the page.
