Virgin Atlantic’s complimentary Upper Class car ended on 1 July 2020. If you are reading that Upper Class comes with a free chauffeur, that information is six years out of date. What exists now is a paid booking — and for most travellers it is arguably better news than the perk it replaced.
What replaced it
Virgin Atlantic sells chauffeur transfers at a preferential rate through a partnership with Addison Lee. The part worth knowing: it is open to passengers in any cabin, not restricted to Upper Class. Economy and Premium passengers can book the same cars at the same rates.
Coverage runs to roughly twenty locations, including London Heathrow, New York JFK and Los Angeles, plus Manchester, Glasgow, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, Las Vegas, Delhi, Mumbai, Johannesburg, Shanghai and several Caribbean destinations. It covers Virgin Atlantic flights only.
The one Upper Class benefit that survived
Departing London Heathrow on a confirmed, eligible Upper Class ticket, your driver drops you at the Upper Class Wing — the separate drive-through entrance with its own security channel. That is a genuine time saving and it is the remaining cabin-specific advantage.
Practical terms
- Thirty minutes of waiting time is included.
- The car does not follow your flight. If your flight time changes, the transfer has to be rebooked manually. This catches people out on delays.
- Booked through My Booking on Virgin Atlantic’s site, under Chauffeur Car Service.
- Special requests need 12 hours’ notice. Child seats must meet legal standards, and pets may carry an extra charge.
On prices
Virgin Atlantic does not publish a rate card, and neither will we. The fare depends on route, vehicle class and time, and is quoted at booking. Any page quoting you a fixed Virgin Atlantic chauffeur price is guessing. Get the quote in My Booking, where it is priced against your actual itinerary.
