Where to Stay in Lubec, Maine: Only Two Open Year Round

Lubec is the easternmost town in the United States and it is very small.

Lubec is the easternmost town in the United States and it is very small. There is no chain hotel, most of what exists is seasonal, and the main attraction across the bridge shuts its buildings in October. Booking here without checking dates is how people end up driving to Machias at nine at night. Two properties are confirmed open year round; everything else depends on when you come.

Open year round

  • Eastern Beacon Inn, 61 Water Street, Lubec, ME 04652. Phone 207-450-6908. Five rooms, no minimum stay, pets welcome, breakfast included. Rates move with the season.
  • West Quoddy Station, 823 South Lubec Road, Lubec, ME 04652. Phone 1-877-535-4714. Out by the lighthouse rather than in the village.

Seasonal, so check before you rely on them

  • The Home Port Inn, 45 Main Street, ME 04652. Phone 207-733-2077 or 800-457-2077. Seven rooms, open roughly 15 May to 15 October, with limited off-season stays by advance arrangement. There is no restaurant; breakfast is for guests only, 7:30 to 8:30am. Older reviews mentioning a restaurant reflect a real change.
  • Water Street Inn & B&B, 12 Water Street, ME 04652. Phone 207-733-0122. Watch this one: the restaurant runs May to December but the rooms are May to October only. One address, two different seasons, and it catches people out.
  • Cohills Inn, 7 Water Street, ME 04652. Phone 207-733-4300. Rooms above an Irish pub. Pub hours shift with the season; when we checked it was Thursday to Monday, 4 to 8pm, kitchen closing at 7:45.
  • The Inn & Restaurant on The Wharf, 69 Johnson Street, ME 04652. Phone 207-733-4400. Listed as operating by the town tourism office, but the building is currently on the market with Maine brokerages. No closure has been announced. Ring before you count on it.
  • Peacock House B&B, 27 Summer Street, ME 04652. Phone 207-733-2403. We could not confirm this one is taking bookings. Its website is an empty holding page with no rates or booking function, though the town directory still lists it. Call before making plans around it.

Three things about crossing to Campobello

Most people come to Lubec for Roosevelt Campobello International Park, over the bridge in New Brunswick. Three things decide whether that goes well.

  • Campobello is on Atlantic Time, one hour ahead of Maine. The park’s own site says to set your clock forward as you cross the bridge. A 10:15am cottage tour is 9:15am in Lubec. Turning up on Maine time means arriving an hour late, and this is the single most common mistake visitors make.
  • The border crossing is open 24 hours, seven days. The bridge itself has no gate hours. You need a passport or equivalent in both directions.
  • The park’s buildings are seasonal. The Roosevelt Cottage and Visitor Centre closed for the 2026 season on Saturday 17 October. The grounds and natural area stay open all year, but the house does not. Cottage tour tickets are sold on site only, twenty people per tour.

There is also accommodation on the island itself: Campobello Whale Watch Motel, 935 Route 774, Welshpool, NB E5E 1A9, phone 1-888-752-2008, listed as year round. Remember you are crossing an international border to reach your bed.

If you are coming after mid-October

The park buildings are shut and only Eastern Beacon Inn and West Quoddy Station are confirmed open. The lighthouse, the coast and the quiet are all still there, which for some people is the point. Just book ahead rather than driving out expecting to find something.

Guides are AI drafted. A small number have been checked against official listings, and those say so on the page.
