Petřín Tower Tickets: The Funicular Is Still Closed
Prague’s Petřín funicular has been shut since September 2024. The tower is 250 CZK, the lift 150 more, and tram 22 is the way up.

Prague’s miniature Eiffel Tower sits on a hill, and the charming way up that every guidebook recommends has not run since 13 September 2024. The Petřín funicular is closed for reconstruction. A trial reopening has been signalled for the turn of summer into autumn 2026, but it is not running as we write this.
How to get up the hill instead
Take tram 22 to Pohořelec and walk in along the ridge. It is flat once you are up there, it takes about fifteen minutes, and it goes past the Strahov Monastery. Walking up from Malá Strana on foot is the alternative and it is a real climb — fine in April, unpleasant in August.
What the tower costs
- Tower entry — 250 CZK.
- Lift — 150 CZK on top. Not included.
- 299 steps if you would rather keep the 150.
The staircase spirals around the outside of the structure and is open to the air, which some people find harder than the step count suggests. If heights are an issue, the lift is money well spent.
Is it worth it
The hill itself already gives you the view over the city; the tower adds height above the treeline and a full 360 degrees, and on a clear day you can see a long way into Bohemia. With the funicular shut, treat it as an afternoon on Petřín hill rather than a quick tick, and it holds up.
