Prague Astronomical Clock Tickets: The Show Is Free, the Tower Is Not

Two things people pay for at the Old Town Hall that they do not need to, and one genuine discount almost nobody takes.

The clock show is free

The apostles parade on the hour and you watch it from the square. There is no ticket, no reserved area, no skip-the-line product that gets you a better view than standing there does. Anyone selling you access to the show is selling you the pavement.

Fair warning: it is a short, quiet mechanical display and the crowd is enormous. The building it is attached to is the better part of the visit.

What the tower costs

  • Tower and building — 350 CZK.
  • The lift — 100 CZK extra. It is a paid add-on, not part of the ticket. There is a ramped walkway if you would rather not pay it.
  • First hour after opening — 50% off. Half price on the tower, straightforward, and the tower is empty at that hour.

If you are prepared to be at the Old Town Square when it opens, you get the best light, no queue and half the price in one decision. It is the clearest value in central Prague.

The view from the top

The gallery runs all the way round, so you get Týn Church from above, the square laid out below, and the castle across the river. It is the view that shows you how Prague fits together, which the castle’s own viewpoints do not.
