Alcázar de Toledo Tickets: Entry Has Been Free Since a 2022 Fire
The Army Museum in the Alcázar de Toledo has posted free entry since a 2022 fire closed galleries. It is now closed Mondays, not Wednesdays.

The first thing to understand is what the ticket is for. The Alcázar is essentially a shell rebuilt after the Civil War; what you pay for is the Army Museum inside it. There is no separate “visit the Alcázar” product and the exterior is not an attraction with a gate.
Entry is currently free — with a caveat
A fire on 20 June 2022 closed the galleries covering the late eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the museum posted that admission would be free while they remained shut. That notice is still live on its site today.
The honest caveat: the notice is four years old and no reopening announcement has been published. Whether free entry is still being applied at the door is not something we can confirm. Budget the published €5 tariff and be pleased if you are waved through.
Always free regardless of the notice: temporary exhibitions, the gardens, the archaeological remains, the café and the library. Free with accreditation for under-18s, EU citizens over 65, pensioners, the unemployed, EU university students, and disabled visitors with a companion.
It closes on Mondays now
Older guides — and the museum’s own printed brochure — say closed Wednesdays. It is now closed every Monday, including public holidays, plus 1 and 6 January, 1 May and 24, 25 and 31 December.
Open 10:00–17:00, ticket office to 16:30, rooms cleared from 16:45.
The free day, unresolved
The museum’s own page says free entry every Sunday. Toledo’s city tourism site says Wednesdays, and local press reported the free day moving from Sundays to Wednesdays in 2023. We cannot reconcile them. Verify before planning around it. Both sources agree on the fixed free dates: 29 March, 18 April, 18 May, 12 October and 6 December.
Note also that this is a Ministry of Defence museum, so the standard Spanish state-museum rules — free Saturday afternoons and Sundays — do not apply here, though they do at the nearby Museo del Greco and Museo Sefardí, both €3.
