The Borghese Gallery is not a museum you wander into. Entry runs in two-hour slots capped at 180 people, booking is compulsory for everyone, and people who arrive hoping to buy at the door are turned away.

- Adult: €16, plus a €2 booking fee that applies to every ticket, including the free ones for under-18s.
- Last slot of the day, 5.45pm: €11.
- Temporary exhibitions can push the price above the standard rate.
How the slots work
Entries run hourly from 9am to 5pm, with a final 5.45pm to 7pm slot. You get two hours inside. The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 7pm, last entry 5.45pm, and the ticket office opens at 8.30am.
Closed Mondays, plus 25 December and 1 January. Florence’s Uffizi and Accademia also close Mondays, so if you are doing Rome and Florence in one trip, do not put both cities’ galleries on the same weekday.
Two practical things
Nothing larger than 21 by 15 centimetres comes in with you. Bags and backpacks go to a compulsory cloakroom, so build in ten minutes either side.
On free-admission days, tickets are released ten days ahead and there are no last-minute tickets at all. The gallery itself warns about unauthorised vendors reselling at inflated prices, which is worth taking seriously here more than at most Roman sites.
