Orsay is one of the museums where buying online costs more: €16 online against €14 at the ticket desk. The premium buys a time slot, nothing else.

The one day you must book
Entry is free on the first Sunday of each month, and that is the one day reservation is compulsory. Turning up without one is the classic wasted Sunday morning in Paris.
Hours
Tuesday to Sunday, 9.30am to 6pm, last entry 5pm. Thursday runs late to 9.45pm, last entry 9pm. Closed Mondays, plus 1 May and 25 December.
Note the contrast with the Louvre, which closes Tuesdays. The two are a fifteen-minute walk apart and close on different days, which is either convenient or infuriating depending on how you planned.
