Reina Sofia Tickets: It Closes on Tuesdays

The single most useful fact about the Reina Sofía: it closes on Tuesdays. The Prado does not. Travellers who plan one museum a day get caught by this constantly.

Hours

  • Monday 10am to 9pm.
  • Tuesday closed.
  • Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 9pm.
  • Sunday 10am to 2.30pm.

Free entry, and the Sunday exception

Free from 7pm to 9pm on Monday and Wednesday to Saturday. On Sunday the free window is 12.30pm to 2.30pm instead, because the museum shuts at 2.30pm. Assuming the Sunday slot matches the weekday one is the second most common mistake here.

Free all day on 18 April, 18 May, 23 May, 12 October and 6 December, for individual visitors.

Prices

  • Adult €12, the same online or at the box office.
  • Two visits within a year €18. With audio guide €16.50.
  • Paseo del Arte pass €32.80 with the Prado and the Thyssen.

No advance reservation is needed for individuals, though it is worth booking in peak season.

Sammie O publishes Germ Trips, a travel guide covering hotels, restaurants, airport transfers and chauffeur services. The guides aim for practical detail and a clear recommendation rather than an undifferentiated list. Where a town has no good option, the guides say so and point to the nearest one that does. Guides are AI drafted. A small number have been checked against official listings, and those say so on the page.
