Neuschwanstein Tickets: Your Ticket Is One 30-Minute Slot
Neuschwanstein is 21 euros plus a 2.50 booking fee, guided only, at a fixed minute. Arrive late and there is no refund and no exchange.

The ticket is not for the castle. It is for one 30-minute guided tour starting at one exact minute, and you still have to get yourself 1.5 kilometres uphill to be standing at the gate when it does.
Price and the fee nobody expects
- Adult €21, reduced €20, from 1 January 2026.
- €2.50 booking fee per ticket for online sales — including the free under-18 tickets. Under-18s get in free but still need a ticket, and that ticket still costs €2.50 to reserve.
- No fee if you buy at the ticket centre on the day — but see below.
The ticket centre does not take reservations
The office in Hohenschwangau village sells same-day tickets only, first come first served, and it routinely sells out early. Advance sales are online only. Small extra allotments are released online each morning from 08:00. How far ahead the main allocation opens is not published anywhere official, so we will not invent a number.
Late means lost
The official wording is flat: arrive late and you cannot join the tour. Online tickets are explicitly excluded from exchange and refund — not for another date, not another time, not another language. The walk up takes 30 to 40 minutes on a road with gradients up to 19 per cent. Build in more time than feels sensible.
The scaffolding is gone
The decade-long restoration of the state rooms finished in July 2025. Guides warning you about covered walls and closed halls are out of date. Neuschwanstein also became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2025.
The Bavarian Palace Department’s 14-day ticket (€40) covers admission but you must still book a timed tour and pay the €2.50. Hohenschwangau Castle across the valley is privately run and is not covered by it. Accessibility is limited: there is a lift, but only one wheelchair or walker user per hour can be accommodated, arranged in advance.
