Pompeii Tickets: The Cheap One Leaves Out the Villa of the Mysteries

The single all-in Pompeii ticket is gone. Since January 2026 there are three, and the difference between them is what you can see, not when you can go. Getting that backwards is the most expensive mistake at the gate.

The three tickets

  • Pompeii Express — €20. The ancient city only. No Villa of the Mysteries.
  • Pompeii Plus — €25. Adds the Villa of the Mysteries, the Villa of Diomedes, Villa Regina and the Boscoreale Antiquarium.
  • 3-Day Pass — €30. Everything above plus Oplontis, Villa Arianna, Villa San Marco and the Stabiae Museum, with shuttle access.

If the Villa of the Mysteries with its red frescoes is on your list — and it should be — Express will not get you in. The five euros to Plus is the best-value upgrade on this page.

Your name is on the ticket

Since November 2024 all tickets are nominative, with a daily limit of 20,000 entries. ID may be checked at the turnstile and at random inside; the park’s regulations say that if the names do not match, visitors will not be admitted, with no refund. Buy in the names of the people actually going.

From 16 March to 14 October entry also runs in two capacity windows — 09:00 to 13:00 with 15,000 places, and 13:00 to 17:30 with 5,000. That is an allocation, not a discount: afternoon does not cost less.

Practical

Open 09:00–19:00 in summer with last entry 17:30, and 09:00–17:00 in winter with last entry 15:30. Closed 25 December and 1 January; free on the first Sunday of the month. No re-entry once you leave. Bags are limited to 30 × 30 × 15 cm. Herculaneum is not covered by any Pompeii ticket.

“Pompei per tutti” is a 3.5 km reduced-barrier route, not a ticket — and the park is honest that some ramps exceed an 8% gradient and the ancient paving is uneven. New in 2026: tactile relief models with Braille and sign-language video.
