The palace on Dam Square is still a working royal building, and that is not a decorative detail — it is the single biggest risk in the ticket. Admission is €13.50, timed, and non-refundable.
The closure risk is real
The palace can close at short notice for state functions, and it does not carry a refund obligation when that happens. State visits and royal receptions take precedence over your booking. At the time of writing the palace is posted as open from 26 June to 11 November 2026, but that window can be cut into at any point.
Practical consequence: check the palace’s own opening page within a day or two of your visit, and do not build the rest of your afternoon around it.
Which card works here
- Museumkaart — free entry. The palace counts as a museum.
- I amsterdam City Card — not valid. No entry, no discount.
Worth holding onto, because at the zoo the two cards swap places entirely.
What you see
The Citizens’ Hall is the reason to go: a vast marble room with the world mapped into the floor, built when Amsterdam ran a global trading empire and wanted everyone standing in it to know. Around an hour, audio guide included. It is on Dam Square, so there is no travel to plan.
