Royal Palace Madrid Tickets: Free Entry Is Box Office Only

EU citizens and residents, and Latin American citizens, get in free late in the day. Two details decide whether that actually works for you.

• Free tickets cannot be booked online. Box office only.
• Last admission is one hour before closing. So the winter free window, nominally 4pm to 6pm, is really 4pm to 5pm. Turn up at 5.30pm in January and you get nothing.

The free hours are Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 7pm April to September, 4pm to 6pm October to March, self-guided only. Bring ID: passport, national ID, driving licence or residence permit.

Prices

Add a €0.77 booking fee per ticket. Reduced covers ages 5 to 16, over-65s and students up to 25. Under-5s free. Free for everyone on 18 May and 12 October.

The Royal Kitchen is not in the base ticket — it needs the €24 combination or the €8 standalone. The Royal Armoury is included, and reopened in April 2026 after a year-long overhaul.

It can close at no notice

This is a working royal residence. Patrimonio Nacional states outright that additional closures can happen for official ceremonies, beyond the published closure days. No compensation policy is published, so build slack into the day.

Hours: April to September Monday to Saturday 10am to 7pm, Sunday to 4pm. October to March closes 6pm, Sunday 4pm. Closed 1 and 6 January, 1 May, 25 December.

The Paseo del Arte pass does not cover the Royal Palace — that card is the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen only.
