Schönbrunn is stricter about time than almost any palace in Europe. You are admitted at a fixed minute, and once the booking is made the slot cannot be changed — not by calling, not at the desk on the day. Miss it and you have bought a souvenir.
The two tours, renamed
- State Apartments — €30. The shorter route. This is what used to be called the Imperial Tour.
- Palace Ticket, or Grand Tour — €42. The longer route through the eighteenth-century rooms, including the Millions Room and the Great Gallery.
The old names still appear on third-party sites. If you are comparing offers, match them on room count and price, not on the tour name.
A Vienna Pass does not skip the booking
This is where pass holders get caught. The pass covers the cost of entry; it does not cover the slot. You still have to reserve an admission time in advance, and if the day is sold out the pass buys you nothing. Reserve the moment you know your dates.
The gardens are free. The good bits are not.
Walking the main park costs nothing. Charged separately: the Privy Garden, the Gloriette viewing terrace, the Maze, and the Palm House. One change worth flagging — the Gloriette is no longer sold as a standalone ticket, so if you specifically want that hilltop terrace you need one of the combination garden tickets rather than a single entry at the door.
The zoo, Tiergarten Schönbrunn, sits inside the same park and is a wholly separate ticket again.
