Sforza Castle Tickets: The Castle Is Free, the Museums Are Ten Euros

You do not need a ticket to walk into the Castello Sforzesco. The courtyards, ramparts and park are free and open 07:00 to 19:30. What costs money is the museums inside — and one ticket covers all of them.
One ticket, everything
€10 full, €5 reduced, and the city states plainly that the price already includes presale and service fees — there is no separate booking charge. An open-dated version valid twelve months is €11.
That single ticket admits you to every museum and temporary exhibition in the castle: Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini, the Museum of Ancient Art, the Pinacoteca, the Musical Instruments and Applied Arts collections, the Egyptian and Prehistoric collections and the furniture museum. There is no separate Pietà ticket. Anyone planning a quick Pietà-only stop is leaving most of what they paid for on the table.
Free days changed
- First Sunday of the month — free for everyone.
- Second Tuesday of the month — free for visitors up to and including 25.
- Always free: under-18s, disabled visitors plus a companion, teachers, ICOM members and licensed EU guides.
A lot of published advice — including Milan’s own tourism pages at the time of writing — still says €5 and free on the first and third Tuesday after 14:00. That blanket free-Tuesday-afternoon rule no longer applies. We could not find a dated announcement of the change, so treat the timing as unconfirmed, but the price and the free-day rules above come straight from the city’s own ticketing system.
One room to know about
The Sala delle Asse — Leonardo’s painted vault of interlaced trees — is closed for restoration. If that is why you were going, go anyway for the Pietà, but know it before you arrive.
Museums run Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–17:30, last entry 17:00, closed Mondays, 25 December, 1 January and 1 May.
