Acropolis Museum Tickets: A Completely Different Ticket to the Acropolis

The Acropolis Museum ticket is 20 euros and is sold by a different organisation to the Acropolis site ticket. It is also open on Mondays.

The museum says it itself, because it has to: “The Museum’s ticket is independent from the ticket to the Acropolis and other associated archaeological sites.” Different organisation, different website, different queue. Buying one does not get you into the other.

Price and booking

  • Adult €20, reduced €10. One price year-round — no winter rate.
  • Online tickets carry a fixed date and time, but individuals do not have to book ahead — the ticket desk works.
  • Groups of 16 to 40 must book.
  • Reduced and free tickets are only issued at the on-site desk, never online.

It is open on Mondays

A lot of guides still say “closed Mondays”. The museum opens seven days a week, and runs late on Fridays until 22:00 all year, which is the best time to see the Parthenon Gallery with the light going and the crowds gone. Winter is 09:00–17:00 Monday to Thursday; summer runs to 20:00 Tuesday to Sunday.

Closed 1 January, Orthodox Easter Sunday, 1 May and 25–26 December, with short days on 24 and 31 December.

Its free days are its own

Free admission on 6 March, 25 March, 18 May and 28 October. Note that it does not follow the state sites’ free winter Sundays or 18 April — those are a different calendar belonging to a different ministry system. Checking one tells you nothing about the other.

Sammie O

Sammie O publishes Germ Trips, a travel guide covering hotels, restaurants, airport transfers and chauffeur services. The guides aim for practical detail and a clear recommendation rather than an undifferentiated list. Where a town has no good option, the guides say so and point to the nearest one that does. Guides are AI drafted. A small number have been checked against official listings, and those say so on the page.
