Royal Yacht Britannia Tickets: Your Ticket Includes a Free Year Pass

A standard Britannia ticket is 23 pounds online in summer and quietly includes a free 12-month annual pass. No time slots, and it is in Leith, not the centre.

Britannia is the most relaxed ticket in Edinburgh and the one with the best-hidden extra. A standard ticket includes a free 12-month annual pass giving unlimited return visits, and hardly any guide mentions it.

Prices, which move with the season

  • April to October — adult £23 online, £25 on the door.
  • November to March — adult £22 online, £24 on the door.
  • Under-7s free. Carers free. Armed forces £15.00 in summer.
  • Kids go free 25 June to 1 September 2026, applied automatically.

One catch on the online saving: it applies up to the day before. Book online on the morning of your visit and you pay the ticket-desk price anyway, so there is nothing to gain from booking in the taxi.

No time slots

The standard Signature tour has no timed entry — turn up and go aboard, contactless payment at the desk. That makes it the reliable wet-afternoon fallback when the castle has sold out its date. The audio guide is included in around forty language versions, with BSL and ASL tablets and a Braille script.

It is not in the city centre

This is the mistake people actually make. Britannia is moored at Ocean Terminal in Leith, a shopping centre a couple of miles from the Royal Mile. Allow travel time in both directions.

On access it is the strongest of Edinburgh’s major attractions: a central lift serves all five decks and five wheelchairs are free to hire. The binding limit is width — wheelchairs must be under 670mm, because the Royal Deck Tea Room is reached only by the original narrow onboard lift. Mobility scooters are not suitable.

The guides aim for practical detail and a clear recommendation rather than an undifferentiated list. Where a town has no good option, the guides say so and point to the nearest one that does. Guides are AI drafted. A small number have been checked against official listings, and those say so on the page.
