Two things changed in Athens that make most published advice on the Agora wrong, and they compound each other.
The combined ticket is gone
The old €30 five-day ticket covering the Acropolis, the Ancient Agora, the Roman Agora, Hadrian’s Library, the Olympieion and Kerameikos has been abolished. Greece’s pricing reform kept combined tickets only for Olympia, Delphi, Mycenae and Vergina — none of them in Athens.
Anything still sold online as an “Athens combo ticket” is a reseller bundle, not an official product, and it costs more than buying the sites separately. Sources differ on whether the abolition took effect in April 2024 or April 2025; that it happened is not in doubt.
And the winter half-price is gone too
Greece used to halve admission at state sites from 1 November to 31 March, for everyone. That blanket discount no longer exists — the low-season reduction now applies only to EU citizens aged 65 and over.
The Ancient Agora is therefore €20 adult, €10 reduced, flat all year. It was €10 before April 2025. Guides quoting €10 summer and €5 winter are describing a system that has been dismantled.
What you get for the twenty
The Temple of Hephaestus — the best-preserved Greek temple anywhere — the Agora itself, and the museum inside the Stoa of Attalos, which is included. Visitors routinely assume the Stoa is a separate charge and walk past it. It is the best part of the site.
Free days: 6 March, 18 April, 18 May, the last weekend of September, 28 October, and the first and third Sunday of each month from November to March — the free winter Sundays doubled from one to two under the reform. Open 08:00 to 19:30 in high summer, 08:00 to 17:00 in winter, last entry 20 minutes before close.
