Stockholm Royal Palace Tickets: It Can Close for a Royal Reception
The Stockholm Royal Palace is 250 SEK for three museums on one ticket, and it can close wholly or partly for official receptions hosted by the King.
One ticket, 250 SEK, and a genuine risk that the building is shut when you get there.
The closure risk is officially acknowledged
The palace’s own FAQ warns that it may close wholly or partly during official receptions hosted by the King. This is a working royal residence and state functions come first. Check on the day rather than building the morning around it.
What the ticket covers
The official FAQ names three: the Royal Apartments, the Treasury and the Tre Kronor Museum. It is one combined ticket — you do not buy per museum.
Many guides say four, adding Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities. That museum is not named in the official list and we could not confirm it is included. Do not count on it.
Adult 250 SEK, student 230, child 125, free for 6 and under with an adult. There is no senior rate — the FAQ says so outright, despite most guides implying one. One reseller lists the palace at 220 SEK; the operator says 250.
The changing of the guard is free
It happens in the Outer Courtyard, a public space, and no ticket exists or is needed. Weekdays and Saturdays 12:15, Sundays and public holidays 13:15, about 40 minutes. Mounted parades run April to August. Times shift by season.
One access note: Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities is up a steep ten-step staircase with no lift, so it is effectively closed to wheelchair users. There are accessible toilets by the Royal Apartments entrance, assistance dogs are welcome, and carers enter free.
