Thyssen Tickets: Mondays Are Free, All Four Hours of Them

The Thyssen opens for just four hours on Mondays — noon to 4pm — and the entire window is free. That makes Monday the cheapest visit in Madrid’s golden triangle, and the busiest four hours of the museum’s week.

There is a second free window: Saturdays 9pm to 11pm. The museum’s own pages are slightly ambiguous about whether that covers everything or only current exhibitions, so treat it as a bonus rather than a plan.

One ticket covers everything

Unlike the Prado and Reina Sofía, the Thyssen does not split permanent from temporary. €14 buys the permanent collection, the Carmen Thyssen collection and the temporary exhibitions together.

• General €14. Reduced €10 for over-65s, pensioners and students of any age or nationality with valid ID.
• Groups of seven or more: €12. Audio guide adds €5.50.
• Free for under-18s, unemployed, teachers, disabled visitors plus a companion, and on 18 May and 12 October.

Note there is no EU under-25 rule here. The student concession is nationality-blind, and the free bracket is under-18 rather than under-25.

Booking and hours

Booking is optional — the museum says a time slot is only needed for the ground-floor temporary exhibition, which has limited capacity.

Summer, to 31 August: Tuesday to Friday 10am to 9pm, Saturday to 11pm, Sunday to 7pm. From 1 September the weekday close drops back to 7pm. Last entry 30 minutes before. Closed 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.

The Paseo del Arte card is €32.80, covers all three big museums, is valid a year, and gives skip-the-line here — but it cannot be used at the Thyssen on a Monday, which is free anyway.
